Year One

At Frodingham Infants, we recognise that Year One is the transition year from EYFS to KS1.  We start the year with plenty of opportunity for continuous provision and often work in small groups.  As the year progresses, we move to more formal lessons and whole class teaching.  We ensure there are lots of practical opportunities in lessons and exciting experiences like a wedding and Victorian day to bring learning to life.

Little Wandle phonics

We start Year One by analysing the data passed on from Reception.  Any child at risk of falling behind will access phonics keep up interventions.  We make sure phase 3 and 4 are secure and plug any gaps that arise.  We then move on to phase 4 and 5.

We have reading sessions at least three times a week to secure our use of phonics, develop fluency and promote a love of reading.
