Victorian Day

Although we may look a little but grumpy we had a fantastic victorian day! The children showed their top stength of humor and played the part very well!

Our Classes

This year, we have moved back to seperate year groups.  They are:

Class 3  Miss Carter (Year 1)

Class 4  Mrs McGlone / Mrs Platt (Year 1)

Class 5  Mrs Milburn (Year 2)

Class 6  Miss Cranidge (Year 2)

CHOP, SLICE, MASH!

Chartwells, the company who provide our school dinners, came in to show us how to prepare different salads so that we can begin to design and make our own sandwich this term.  We used knives very sensibly, and got to try different types of lettuce, as well as tomatoes, peppers, cucumber and spring onion.

The Pantomime!!  All the children in reception and KS1 enjoyed a performance of Jungle Book.

Our Taxis are finished!  We are so proud of them.

Taxi!

Look at our finished London Taxis.  They look sooooo good...but better than that, they actually work!  Our wheels and axels make our taxis have a super smooth ride, ready to take people wherever they want to go.  I wonder which London landmark we will visit first?  Where would you like to go?

Transient art

As part of our art work on weather, we made transient art.  This is art that is temporary and we can get out and pack away.  We loved making the weather symbols in different ways.  What is your favourite type of weather?

Scunthorpe Poetry Festival 2024

Well done to our children who took part in the festival this year.  You were all brilliant at reciting your poems.

Beginning to make our London taxis in design technology

After investigating wheels and axles last term, we have begun making our own taxis.

KS1 Role-play wedding

As part of our work on Christianity and making promises, Key stage 1 held a role-play wedding.  We had a ceremony in the school hall, with beautiful bridesmaids and songs and prayers.  The bride and groom made promises to each other and signed the wedding certificate.  Afterwards, we had a wedding reception party.  The best man made a fantastic speech and the bride and groom cut the cake.  It was delicious.  There was a disco in the hall where everyone watched the bride and groom enjoy their first dance before having a great time dancing with their friends.  What a super afternoon!  I wish I had brought my hat!

Investigating wheels and axles

We have been investigating how to make fixed axles and free moving axles. We can't wait to make our own vehicles next term.

Silent Disco

We had a great time at the silent disco today!  We loved dancing to our chosen songs and then played a colours game, where we had to listen out to the colours in the lyrics.  We loved it!

Chinese New Year

To help celebrate Chinese new year, Mrs Russell made us a special chinese inspired school menu!  We had Chicken Fried Rice and Vegetable Chow Mein!  The Apple Fortune Cake was delicious!

Number Day

We joined in with NSPCC's number day.  We had over 50 families sharing maths activities with us in the hall.

Music

This half term we have been learning the song 'In the Groove'.  We enjoyed adding percussion and glockenspiels too!

Vehicles

Later this term, we are going to design and make a taxi, using a cardboard box.  it has to have axles and wheels that work.  To help us plan what to do, we investigated some construction kits and made working vehicles.

Party time!

What a great time we had at out party!  We played games, did lots of dancing, had a pass the parcel...and then a special visitor came!  Santa brought us presents and we won lots of prizes.  Such wonderful memories.  Happy Christmas everyone!

Christingle

Another one of our advent traditions is the Christingle service.  We love making and lighting our Christingles and seeing the beautiful light they create in the hall.  Special times!

It's Chriiiiiistmassssss!

We showed so much bravery and self control this week, performing our concert to our families.  We enjoyed singing and putting on a show.  Well done everyone, you really did shine!

Advent Spiral

To mark the start of Advent, today we walked the advent spiral.  This is our annual celebration, where we think about the memories gone by and the special times ahead.  We reflect on Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and look forward to Christmas.

The light of Christ in glory shining, scatter the darkness from before your path.

Remembrance

We were proud to make our class wreath and then take it to the War Memorial.  We placed our wreath among the others and sang our 'We will remember' song.

Senses

We have been learning all about our senses.  To explore our sense of sight, we completed a jigsaw in the cllassroom where we could see.  We then tried to cmplete the same jigsaw in the dark den, where we could not see!

Mix It!

In art we did lots of work on colour mixing!! We used the primary colours to make secondary colours.

Can you name the primary colours?

How do you make green?

How do you make orange?

Which two primary colours make purple?

PSHCE - Savouring

We can savour foods – either sweet or savoury by eating something slowly together as a class. We handed around the bread and asked the children just to hold it and look at it and think about it. Then, when everyone was ready, we ate together in silence, concentrating just on the taste and texture of what they were eating. A silent ‘thank you’ for the food was said at the end.

The children all agreed that the bread was good with one person saying "That was the best bread I've ever tasted"

Designing and making dens

We designed and made dens.  We tested them to make sure they were waterproof in case of the rain, and checked that they were sturdy enough to stand up even in the wind.

Visit to the museum

As part of our history topic we went to the museum.
